16,500+

Over 16,500 students are enrolled in our pre-primary units.

Our early childhood development (ECD) programmes include 95 standalone nursery schools and ECD centres, and 162 units attached to our schools. They serve over 16,500 students aged 18 months to six years.

The pre-primary curricula include international, national or blended curriculum approaches that reflect children’s context, culture and community. They integrate learning areas across a range of individual and group activities. The approach to learning mirrors the interrelated nature of development in early childhood, nurturing students’ holistic development.

We provide ongoing training and support for teachers to provide safe, stimulating and nurturing early learning environments for young children.

Collaboration with Governments

AKES, India supports government and private ECD initiatives in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Telangana. A recent government-initiated partnership involved AKES, India, the Aga Khan Foundation, the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme and Tata Trusts in the Devbhumi Dwarka District of Gujarat. Through this project, AKES, India supported government ECD centres by enhancing the learning environment, enriching the curriculum and building teaching capability through mentoring and training. After completion, an ECD technical core group was formed to contribute to the government of Gujarat’s ECD agenda, including curriculum and training support.
