At the finale of the 15th cycle of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, six winning projects were recognised at a prize-giving ceremony in Muscat, Oman. Distinguished laureates joined officials of the Sultanate of Oman, architectural experts, the Award’s Steering Committee and members of its Master Jury, as well as dignitaries from around the world. His Excellency Sayyid bin Sultan Al-Busaidi and Princess Zahra Aga Khan spoke at the ceremony, which included a performance by the Aga Khan Master Musicians with special guest Yurdal Tokcan.
Guests also attended the Winners' Seminar, discussing the social impact of architecture in the context of Oman. Over the years, this seminar has become a hallmark of the triennial Award. It provides a platform for architects, clients, designers and patrons to discuss each of the winning projects, and the resulting positive impact on their social and natural environments. In her concluding remarks at the event, Marina Tabassum, an architect and member of the Award’s Steering Committee, highlighted that the committee’s recommendation to the Master Jury was “to seek out excellent architecture that reimagines reality, charting new directions, new possibilities – new realities.” In doing so, the 2022 winning projects have demonstrated exemplary and transformative practices, contributing to the ongoing conversation of how architecture and the built environment have a profound impact on the way in which we all live our lives.
