The Republic of Mozambique celebrates its Independence Day on 25 June. On this day in 1975, the country gained its independence from Portugal. In 1998, the Aga Khan Development Network and the Government of Mozambique signed a diplomatic Agreement of Co-operation for Development.
This collection of images focuses on the activities in Cabo Delgado, the country’s northernmost and poorest province, where the Aga Khan Foundation works with communities in 13 districts to improve the quality of life through greater food security and financial inclusion; more resilient livelihoods; better health, nutrition and growth; and improved access to quality education, particularly for girls. The Aga Khan Academy in Maputo, which is the third in the network of Aga Khan Academies, follows the highly successful model established by the first two Academies in Mombasa, Kenya and Hyderabad, India.
The images in this gallery were taken prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
