Farming takes up much of women’s time in the communities where AKDN works. With less access than men to land, finance and agricultural inputs – and in the face of climate change challenges – the work is often gruelling and the rewards limited.
We help women access resources including microfinance, drought-resistant seeds and cattle that produce more milk, along with training in region-appropriate farming techniques. Entrepreneurship and employment skills training offers them a path to other earning opportunities, while through civil society groups they gain a stronger voice in decision-making. This International Day of Rural Women, find out how they are adopting climate-smart farming and diversifying their livelihoods beyond agriculture.
