The Aga Khan Trust for Culture’s award-winning work on the World Heritage site of Aleppo will be featured on TV5 Monde’s Clin d’oeil sur le monde (“World Snapshots”). From the script: “Since earliest antiquity, a trading town halfway between the Mediterranean Sea and Mesopotamia in modern day Iraq, and once a staging post on the Silk Route, has been greatly sought after owing to its prosperity… Its 36 souks are the largest in the Middle East from the medieval period. Around 14 kilometres long and including six covered markets, this antique ‘shopping centre’ was particularly badly damaged during the events of 2012 to 2016. Since 2018, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture has been working on a huge new type of humanitarian aid project in Al-Madinah” – for which it received an ICCROM-Sharjah Award for Best Practice in Cultural Heritage Conservation and Management in the Arab region.
