Tajikistan’s health indicators, especially concerning the country’s growing younger population, indicate that much greater investment in the country’s health care systems is required.
The Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) and other AKDN agencies are making a number of such investments. AKHS is working to improve the health status of communities in several provinces in Tajikistan, as well as in the Badakhshan region of Afghanistan.
A particular focus is on women of reproductive age and children under the age of five. AKHS works closely with communities, encouraging them to take responsibility for their own health, and provides technical assistance to the Government to strengthen its healthcare system.
