On Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 September, Open House London celebrates the city’s motley assortment of architecture, with medieval walls jostling against post-modernist facades. People will be able to dip into some of the world’s most interesting buildings. One of the 10 best places to explore is the Aga Khan Centre, home to the Institute of Ismaili Studies and the Aga Khan University’s Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations. Designed by Pritzker prize-winning architect Fumihiko Maki, it is an intricately layered building close to Kings Cross station. The centre is structured into three distinct layers, topped by a ‘crown’ of six gardens inspired by different regions of the Muslim world.
