The Aga Khan Award for Architecture, granted every three years, rewards projects that focus on sustainability, landscape preservation, and the development of sites with a significant Muslim presence around the world. In the last edition of the award in 2016, the use of organic shapes and materials was a common trend. Terracotta, concrete (even mixed with Chinese ink), and grass on rooftops were employed. High tech, recycled, and foreign materials establish a link between past and present, celebrating cultural heritages.
