A trip to Pakistan? Curiosity wins out. Seven impressions of a trip through this multifaceted country, which has more beautiful mountains than Switzerland, where tunnels are built so much faster than here and where women need so much more courage. The Hunza Valley is known as “little Switzerland” and its inhabitants are mostly Ismailis, who belong to the Shiite religious community and are considered relatively moderate Muslims. Their spiritual leader is Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, who was born in Geneva, Switzerland. The Aga Khan Foundation finances large parts of the infrastructure in the Hunza Valley. Ninety-eight percent of the children in the valley go to school. The national average is only 42 percent.
