A 2024 study by Aga Khan University found that air pollution in Karachi is driving a rise in respiratory disorders, with fine particulate matter (PM2.5) levels frequently exceeding World Health Organisation (WHO) limits. Recent research warns the crisis is worsening, as many areas record PM2.5 concentrations well above safe levels. Major pollution sources include vehicles, industry, waste burning, generators, and dust from construction and unpaved roads, with vehicles accounting for about 70 per cent. The report underlines that both authorities and citizens share responsibility for improving air quality.
