In a groundbreaking move set to transform Pakistan’s healthcare sector, Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi has officially adopted Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, marking the first time AI has been integrated into healthcare delivery in the country. This initiative aims to enhance patient care, streamline treatment planning, and ultimately revolutionise the medical field. Dr. Saleem Siani, the Director of the Technology Innovation Support Center at Aga Khan University, explained that AI is not intended to replace human expertise but to augment it. “This technology supports healthcare professionals, enabling more accurate diagnoses and timely treatment plans,” Dr. Siani said, highlighting its impact on managing complex conditions like cancer and heart disease. He also noted that AI could play a crucial role in detecting potential epidemics early, enabling quicker responses.
