The Portuguese Government and the Ismaili Imamat recently signed a Scientific and Technological Collaboration Protocol, which provides for funding of approximately 5 million euros for scientific research projects, reinforcing a strategic partnership with a direct impact on Portugal and the Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP). The new financial package represents a reinforcement of the support already provided by the Ismaili Imamat and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) to scientific and academic research. The partnership is not recent: in 2016, the first protocol was established between the two parties, which provided for funding of 10 million euros for research projects and joint initiatives between Portuguese scientific and academic institutions and institutions from the Portuguese-speaking African countries.
