On 11 July, the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) launched a Sh25.3 billion project to minimise diseases, maternal and child mortality rates and improving access to maternal and newborn health in the Mwanza region. The project will cover several districts and is jointly financed by the Aga Khan Foundation Canada and the government. The launch took place in Mwanza with the presence of the Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, the Elderly and Children, Ms Ummy Mwalimu. The key areas of the project will include improving infrastructure and the system of providing services to pregnant women and children in over 80 health service centres in the region.
