The Chapel of Our Lady of Affliction, in Branzelo, Gondomar, reopened this Sunday following reconstruction financed by the Aga Khan Development Network, after being destroyed in the fires that devastated the region exactly one year ago. The reopening was officially announced at a ceremony attended by the mayor of Gondomar, representatives of the government and the Church, and Prince Aly Aga Khan. The chapel's restoration was made possible following a €375,000 grant from the Ismaili Imamat in Portugal, an entity led by His Highness the Aga Khan, in collaboration with the government and ecclesiastical authorities and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, which provided specialised technical advice on aspects related to sustainability and the preservation of cultural heritage.
