Aga Khan University (AKU), in collaboration with Virtual University of Pakistan (VU) and Fogarty International USA, organised a two-day specialised workshop titled "Fundamentals of Mathematical Modelling in Vector-Borne Disease Control" at VU Islamabad. The training focused on predicting dengue outbreaks using mathematical and epidemiological models as part of the Research Capacity Building on Vector Borne Diseases in Pakistan initiative. The workshop brought together students, researchers, and public health professionals, including a dedicated group of participants from Gilgit-Baltistan, to enhance their understanding of disease transmission dynamics and data-driven outbreak forecasting. The first session was led by Prof. Dr. Erum Khan of Aga Khan University, who introduced the Research Capacity Building Programme and discussed mosquito biology, vector behaviour, and evidence-based disease control strategies. Dr. Bilal Usmani conducted the second session, covering the fundamentals of mathematical modelling and its applications in vector-borne disease control and public health decision-making.
