Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi is the first runner up of the 2025 Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) Energy awards, in recognition of efforts in reducing carbon emissions through the adoption of renewable energy solutions. The hospital was honoured for two key green energy projects established in 2022, a solar power plant and a biomass boiler, which have significantly reduced its reliance on fossil fuels and lowered its overall carbon footprint. “Our solar plant has reduced our reliance from the National grid and helped the hospital in offsetting upwards of 124,000Kwh from the National grid annually, a capacity we are looking at expanding. This has reduced an average of 96,000 kgs of carbon emissions yearly,” said Aga Khan University Hospital CEO, Rashid Khalani.
