The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) in Nairobi has been accredited as a centre of excellence for the management of heart attacks. It becomes the first hospital in sub-Saharan Africa and second in Africa to achieve this certification, given by the Joint Commission International (JCI), a leader in health quality standards. The certification followed a clinical care programme certification audit conducted by the JCI in August. AKUH received the certificate based on a review of compliance with international standards, clinical guidelines and outcomes of care.
