“Health is a fundamental aspect of our life, and it plays a crucial role in enhancing our overall well-being and quality of life, the importance of which no sensible person can deny,” argues Ambassador Dr Jamil in a recent op-ed. In Pakistan, as well as in various developing and underdeveloped countries in Asia and Africa, the health sector lacks adequate attention. For a long time, seeing loved ones in remote areas suffer from various diseases and losing their lives due to lack of medical facilities was almost like the witnesses embracing death themselves. However, in numerous backward areas, individuals and organisations driven by the spirit of serving humanity are providing medical services to the public. The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), as a global organisation, is striving to improve the quality of life for people in developing countries. Aga Khan Health Services is a network of hundreds of institutions in various countries that provide health services to the needy, middle, and low-income individuals, setting an example of humanitarian service. These institutions include hospitals and health centres offering basic health services, maternal and childcare, as well as specialised services like cardiology, oncology, neurology, and other medical facilities.
