The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) employs 80,000 people in 30 countries. But without the action of thousands of volunteers, it would not be able to implement and maintain its projects, especially in the areas of health and education. The 30-hectare Al Azhar Park in Egypt, created by AKDN in Cairo's historic centre, is an urban oasis. The project is not limited to the extensive green area - it includes a training programme, which teaches restoration and carpentry. The Aga Khan's support in Pakistan is over 100 years old. Known primarily by its university in Karachi and the work of the Aga Khan Fund for Culture in Lahore, AKDN currently offers a wide range of services in Pakistan.
