The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) Pakistan and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) will support three selected projects with grants from the Regional Climate Smart Business Challenge Facility (CSBCF) to foster climate-smart business solutions in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, Pakistan. The CSBCF programme addresses climate change challenges by promoting sustainable business practices focused on agriculture and water. By supporting innovative and environmentally friendly business ideas, the programme aims to foster economic growth and mitigate climate change impacts. Implemented through the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) these projects will introduce high-value saffron and roses in Chitral, develop a user-friendly carbon credit application and digital trading platform, and use mobile solar pumps to green barren lands in Gilgit. At the opening ceremony, the CEO of AKF Pakistan, Mr Akhtar Iqbal, stated, “The regional pilot project will create a financially sustainable climate facility that promotes awareness, knowledge sharing, and innovations in climate resilience in Pakistan and Central and South Asia.”
