Mustafa Said savoured the experience of performing at the inaugural Aga Khan Music Awards. The event was held last weekend in Lisbon, Portugal, with the awards honouring musicians who create works that preserve the cultural traditions of countries steeped in Islamic heritage. Speaking to The National before he returned to Cairo, he said he approached the competition with an open mind and that everyone had a role in preserving traditional Arabic music. He came to the awards not to play, but to listen. He came to meet and listen to all these other artists and that was a great experience.
