A recent study in multiple African countries indicated that despite significant strides made in detecting, managing and treating breast cancer, the disease is still one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers. In Kenya, the participating hospitals were Kenyatta National Hospital and Aga Khan University Hospital. “This study is a critical first step to understanding the magnitude of the barriers that Kenyan breast cancer patients face in their fight against this disease, both to improve access to quality cancer treatment and ensure that our patients do not face financial catastrophe while fighting this disease,” said Majid Twahir, lead author of the study and medical director of Aga Khan University Hospital.
