As Covid-19 rages on, responsibility must rest with citizens

Dr. Alex Awiti, Vice Provost of Aga Khan University in Kenya, discusses the trajectory of the pandemic in Africa. He says that the surge in Kenya and the rest of the continent is coming at a most unnerving moment. Economies have suffered the worst decline in decades. The devastation wrought on some vital sectors such as tourism, hospitality, retail, aviation may take several years to rebuild. Progress and critical gains on poverty, education and health will be eroded. While the virus has taken root and governments are flailing, citizens are resisting changes to what they believe is normal life. However, governments can no longer afford lockdown. He goes on to say that without a cure or vaccine, citizens, must look after themselves and each other.
