The Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) focuses on the physical, social, cultural and economic revitalisation of communities in the developing world. It comprises the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, the Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme, the Aga Khan Music Initiative, the on-line resource ArchNet.org and the Aga Khan Programme for Islamic Architecture. AKTC seeks to leverage the unique transformative power of culture to improve socio-economic conditions of communities that have a rich cultural heritage, but inadequate resources. AKTC’s model is based on utilising cultural assets as catalysts for economic development, restoring pride and improving the quality of life.
