In a moment of immense pride for Pakistan and the global academic community, Dr Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta, Professor and Founding Director, Institute for Global Health and Development at Aga Khan University (AKU), one of the world’s foremost authorities on maternal and child health, has been appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest civilian honours. This recognition not only highlights his exceptional contributions to global health but also cements his position as a source of inspiration to healthcare professionals worldwide. Established in 1967 by Queen Elizabeth II, the Order of Canada celebrates individuals who have made outstanding contributions to society. Dr Bhutta’s groundbreaking research and leadership in maternal, newborn, and child health has improved the lives of millions worldwide, particularly in underserved and marginalised communities. His work has influenced public health policies globally, from the corridors of the World Health Organisation to grassroots programmes in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.
