Eight Ugandan schools have qualified for the grand finale of the Stanbic National Schools Championship (NSC), where they will compete for a multi-million-shilling cash prize and the chance to showcase innovations aimed at solving community problems. Aga Khan High School is developing Renewablock Interlocking Blocks, which the team says turns plastic waste mixed with sand into durable, eco-friendly bricks as an affordable construction material. “This is to help every Ugandan regardless of their income status because we have people in informal settlements and people in rural areas who wish for better homes that are actually presentable,” said John Arinaitwe, a senior student.
