Although the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) was associated with the Ismaili community, the projects of the Network comprise all of Syria, transcending sectarian, ethnic and even political considerations. Today, the network has strategic development plans in the country with a new framework agreement which has streamlined coordination. In an extended interview with The New Arab, AKDN Syria Resident Representative Ghadfan Ajjoub speaks about the over a century-long relationship between the institutions of the Ismaili Imamat and Syria. “The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is an international development organisation, whose binding and unwavering objective is to serve the poorest communities, regardless of their gender, origin, religion, creed or political position,” says Ajoub.
