Recently, scientists from several noteworthy climate research groups released their analysis of 2025 heat data. Last year was the third warmest year on record. Even more alarming, even if the year is not breaking records, a warmer climate will cause an increase in the frequency and intensity of weather extremes. Heat waves are the deadliest of such weather events, but there are other implications. “In Tajikistan, for example, where we cultivate a lot of wheat, a lot of cotton, it’s been estimated…[that] half of the harvests were impacted by the heat wave,” said Arnaud Caiserman, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Central Asia.
