Numerous programmes in schools and communities in Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh, India were organised under the Poshan Prerana Project run by the Aga Khan Foundation in celebration of Global Handwashing Day celebrated on 15 October every year. The events were organised to raise awareness about personal hygiene and health among all community members — including children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. In the school programmes, children learnt when to wash their hands, how to do it correctly, and why it matters.
