The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) embody vision for a healthier planet, with SDG 3 looking to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all. There is also SDG 6, which looks to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Sanitation is key to a healthy environment. Achieving universal access to adequate health services including decent sanitation requires local action everywhere. Aleem Walji, from the Aga Khan Foundation, explains how the AKDN made it possible, for instance in India, from the provision of financial mechanisms to providing training and building skills.
