The Aga Khan Trust for Culture, Egypt, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities represented by the Supreme Council of Antiquities, signed a cooperation protocol to restore and develop the Khayyamiya Market (Kasbah Radwan) in historic Cairo, as part of the efforts of both sides to preserve the urban heritage and traditional crafts, and to enhance the position of historic Cairo as a major destination for cultural tourism. The project reflects a joint commitment to rehabilitating one of the area’s key historic sites, balancing preservation of its architectural and historical value with a better urban environment, stronger support for artisans and commercial activity, and an improved visitor experience. Under the agreement, AKTC, Egypt will carry out a comprehensive restoration and development programme to safeguard the historic building.
