Kenyan Government, Gates Foundation Launch Major Push to Transform Irrigation

The Kenyan government has launched an ambitious 10-year plan to expand irrigation by one million acres as part of efforts to strengthen food security, create jobs and improve the livelihoods of millions of farmers. The plan was unveiled during the inaugural Sustainable Irrigation Scaling Coordination Convening in Nairobi, a two-day forum jointly hosted by the State Department for Irrigation and the Gates Foundation. Also present were representatives from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), KfW, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Mastercard Foundation, Aga Khan Foundation, Shell Foundation, IKEA Foundation and SNV.
