The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing a loan to KICB for on-lending to private borrowers. The funds will be used in the Kyrgyz Republic for climate change mitigation and adaptation investments in line with the EBRD’s Green Economy Transition approach – a comprehensive strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency. KICB was established in 2001 at the initiative of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic with the participation of international financial institutions: the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the German Investment and Development Corporation (DEG), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the German Development Bank (KfW). KICB was created to promote the development of the commercial sector in the Kyrgyz Republic.
