Minister Gould announces new support for women’s reproductive health services in Pakistan

The Urban Health Programme, designed by the Department of Community Health Sciences, Aga Khan University Medical College, Pakistan provides support to various squatter settlements of Karachi to solve health and socio-economic problems. The programme focuses on improving the health of people in the settlements, especially expectant women and children, by providing preventive and curative services.

Helping women and adolescent girls be in control of their bodies and make their own decisions is central to their empowerment and creating a more just, equal, and prosperous world. On 9 December, the Honourable Karina Gould, Minister of International Development in Canada, announced funding to support a gender-sensitive approach to women’s reproductive health services in Pakistan. The Healthy Families Pakistan initiative, led by the United Nations Population Fund in partnership with the Aga Khan Foundation, will provide women and adolescent girls with safe and accessible family planning resources.
