Two Iranian Emperors of the 19th century, Fath 'Ali Shah, Emperor from 1797 to 1834, and Nasir al-Din Shah, from 1848 to 1896, played a decisive role in the import of Western modernity to Iran. This is what can be learned in the new exhibition at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, Traditions in Transformation, open to the public until 10 February. The museum decided not to propose a chronological content of the Qajar dynasty that reigned at the time, but rather thematic, focusing on the arts, the daily life of the elite and religion.
