More than 4,800 people gathered Sunday at Prince Island Park in Calgary as part of the 40th Global Partners Walk, which aims to raise money to fight poverty. Organised by the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), Canada, this event aims to help more than 700 million people living in extreme poverty. "We see that Canadians from all walks of life are ready to come together to help people around the world have a livelihood," said Khalil Shariff, CEO of Aga Khan Canada. The money raised will be used to finance the education of girls and young women in East Africa and Asia. Our major current priorities in the world are education, particularly that of girls and women. We are also working on access to health care, particularly for mothers and babies, emphasises Khalil Shariff.
