The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) India has started planting 50,000 indigenous trees in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra to enhance the green cover of city. The drive began with the planting of nearly 7,000 trees at different waste processing sites of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC). Prerana Lanaga, CEO of AKAH, India, said the tree plantation drive is one of the steps towards sustainable development of the city. Ravindra Jogdand, deputy CEO of Smart City Mission for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, emphasised the need for well-planned policies to mitigate challenges associated with climate change. “With such policies, different stakeholders can earn carbon credits, which are being promoted by govt for sustainable development,” Jogdand said.
