More than 600 girls and young women from Kampala and Mukono districts in Uganda have either directly or indirectly benefited from ‘Let Her Shine’ sub-project under the Advancing Gender Equality through Civil Society (AGECS), funded by the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and its Global Affairs Canada counterpart. “These girls have already set up small community training centres in their districts. Currently we have over 40 small training centres where over 600 other girls have been trained in catering, hair dressing, tailoring, and other entrepreneurial skills by these beneficiaries,” said Mr Johnson Kiiza, the Public Health Ambassadors Uganda (PHAU) Programmes Manager. He added, “Each girl you see here is training at least five other girls in their communities, with AKF supporting the provision of equipment. The aim is to see that all these girls are helped as we fight unemployment.”
