In Karachi, the Aga Khan University’s Medical College recently acquired a portable MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and made Pakistan the first country in Asia to have such a system. The machine can be wheeled directly to a patient's bedside and make imaging as simple as receiving a bedside ECG. Traditional MRIs are sometimes unsuitable for use with critically-ill patients, who are difficult to transport from the bed to radiology.
