Women are central to farming and food systems, yet they often work in fragile settings worsened by climate change, conflict, and displacement. At the UN’s 69th Commission on the Status of Women, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) hosted a session highlighting how women can be empowered in these environments. Agnes Quisumbing, IFPRI Senior Research Fellow, shared insights from programmes in India and a value-chain project by the Aga Khan Foundation. The findings are clear: when women have the right tools, recognition, and a voice, they not only uplift themselves but also build resilience in their families and communities.
