Regional Vice Provost and newly appointed as the Dean of the Aga Khan University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Professor Halai has been elected to the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction, a worldwide organisation devoted to research and development in mathematical education. Commenting on her plans for the new position, she said: "I hope to build strategic linkages between global platforms and local networks and communities. The plan is to develop initiatives to promote the exchange of ideas on all aspects of the theory and practice of mathematics education."
