Insha-e-Noor, a skills training women’s enterprise established by the AKTC in 2008, has been making masks for sanitation workers, gardeners and other workers in Delhi’s Nizamuddin basti. Over the years, more than 200 women from the basti have been trained in embroidery and stitching, with most of their products using motifs inspired by the Mughal monuments nearby. The idea was to demonstrate that heritage conservation can be a stepping stone for social and economic development of the local community. "Living amongst 700 years of built heritage, less than 9% of women of Nizamuddin had any economic opportunities," explains Ratish Nanda, CEO of AKTC India.
