On 12 June, 40 endangered baby turtles were released into the Indian Ocean. The 40 were part of the 1,400 eggs, all of which are expected to hatch this week. The hatcheries hosted at the Serena Beach Resort beachfront have been existing since 1992. Serena resident naturalist, Samuel Ndunda, said the hotel has been spearheading efforts to save turtles in Mombasa beaches. Sea turtles are among tourist attractions in Coastal Kenya but their existence has been threatened by human beings.
