In a celebration of innovation and lifelong learning, 18 Ugandan educators graduated from the Aga Khan University’s Centre for Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning (CELL) programme, marking a significant milestone in professional development for primary and secondary teachers. The event highlighted innovative teaching strategies, e-portfolios and a shared commitment to learner-centred education. Speaking during a graduation ceremony for educators who completed a year-long professional development programme, Mr Mahmuod Sayani, the chief executive officer of Aga Khan Education Services, Uganda, said the future of education depends on teachers ‘ability to adapt and innovate. In 2024, the Aga Khan University's Institute for Educational Developmnet (IED), in collaboration with Aga Khan Education Services, Uganda, launched a Professional Learning and Practical Application programme aimed at transforming classroom practices. In a world where change is constant and unpredictable, traditional teaching methods are no longer effective, "Mr. Sayani said.
Supported by the Aga Khan Education Services (AKES) Uganda and Diamond Trust Bank, the programme represents a bold move towards transforming classrooms and scaling teacher leadership across East Africa.
