Restoration work is underway at the Telengana Legislative Assembly building in India, a heritage structure whose deterioration was recently identified by the state government. The job has been entrusted to heritage conservation experts. Historian Dr Mohammed Safiullah said the building was constructed in 1905 to mark the 40th birthday of the sixth Nizam, Mir Mahbub Ali Khan. “This white gem of Hyderabad’s architectural splendour was designed by specially commissioned architects. It adjoins the picturesque Public Gardens, also known as the Hanging Gardens,” he said. Historian Anuradha Reddy said that the Aga Khan Trust for Culture was handling the conservation work. “Most heritage structures, despite neglect, are often stronger than newly constructed buildings. This one requires both short-term and long-term maintenance to preserve its integrity,” she noted.
