While the divide between making art and playing games can seem substantial, the upcoming exhibition Game On! at Aga Khan Museum shows the many ways the two can make great companions. Featuring more than 100 artworks from around the world, spanning from the 7th century to today, the show includes paintings, photographs, sculpture, mixed media, installations – and, yes, a variety of games and beautiful sports equipment. “The exhibition invites visitors to explore the interplay between sports, games and art,” says curator Bita Pourvash. “Sports and games inspire artists to capture moments of encounter and are a way to pass on stories, skills and cultural significance, while creativity is often at the heart of great athleticism.”
