In an op-ed in The Hill Times, AKDN Diplomatic Representative to Canada Mahmoud Eboo writes that enduring global partnerships have rarely felt so urgent in Canada. He highlights Prime Minister Mark Carney’s concept of “variable geometry” — different coalitions for different challenges built on common values — as a way to navigate a fragmenting world. Eboo notes that this approach has shaped Canada’s four-decade partnership with the Ismaili Imamat through the Aga Khan Development Network. On March 25, Carney welcomed His Highness the Aga Khan for his first official visit to Canada as the 50th hereditary Imam. Their partnership reflects a shared vision of “a more prosperous, just, and pluralist world,” supporting around 200 initiatives in more than 15 countries. A new joint statement outlines priorities including affordable housing, renewable energy, agriculture, artificial intelligence, climate action, health innovation, education and support for fragile contexts.
