Her Excellency Sheikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Bahrain Culture and Antiquities Authority, expressed her pleasure to include Al Muharraq on the shortlist of the AKAA, reflecting the diligent efforts of civil and official institutions to restore life to the ancient capital of Bahrain. Sheikha Mai confirmed that Muharraq - through the Pearl Road listed on the World Heritage List and the work of the private sector, especially the Sheikh Ibrahim Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research - shows its heritage monuments and tell about art that reflects its history, which was the capital of Islamic culture last year.
