In New Dehli, the Azimganj Serai is between the Delhi zoo and Sunder Nursery and is key to realising the Centre’s grand vision to build a heritage and ecology corridor linking the Delhi zoo and Purana Qila at one end and the Humayun’s Tomb at the other. In 2015, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) began conserving it. The first phase of the work got over in 2018, and talks are on to start the second phase. An AKTC official explained the tourism potential of the site, "Visitor access will lead to a major additional tourist attraction in the capital and fulfil government objectives of increased tourism. The courtyard of the serai is home to over 500 trees, making the serai both a historical and ecological attraction."
