This year’s Newsroom Leadership Workshop Strengthens Conflict Management Skills Across Africa

The Aga Khan University’s Graduate School of Media and Communication (GSMC) and KAS Media Africa celebrate another successful collaboration - and GSMC’s 10th anniversary! Over five intensive days in Nairobi, Kenya, 14 newsroom managers took part in a specialised workshop designed to strengthen conflict management and leadership skills in African newsrooms. The training, hosted by GSMC, responded to the everyday pressures of editorial environments where tight deadlines, diverse viewpoints, and fast-moving stories can give rise to conflict. As part of the programme, the cohort visited two of Kenya’s major media houses - Nation Media Group and Royal Media Services - gaining firsthand exposure to how leading newsrooms balance editorial demands, manage teams, and uphold professional standards in rapidly evolving media landscapes.
